Learn the ruler
We will practice the cuts, markings, and piecing habits that make the system useful. You do not need to commit to a big quilt to try it.

Stripology has come to Hawaiʻi
Aloha! Art Quilts Hawaii is a GE Quilt Designs Stripology partner shop. I chose this ruler and pattern system because it makes accurate cutting and piecing more approachable, whether you are making your first quilt or looking for a fresh way to work. Gudrun Erla’s patterns, videos, and projects give us plenty to explore. I bring the local fabric choices, hands-on support, and room to make each quilt your own.

Four ways in
Learn the ruler, make a project, bring Hawai‘i into the design, or follow along from wherever you live. Start with one and add the others when you are ready.

How workshops workJoin our second-Tuesday workshop to work on a selected GE Quilt Designs pattern. Some sessions focus on a new skill or the first part of a project; others give you time to sew, ask questions, and move a quilt forward. Check each listing for the pattern, ruler, supplies, and skill level.
See upcoming sessionsI will show one carefully chosen fabric combination for selected projects, sometimes with a kit or bundle available by preorder. Think Hawaiian prints, palaka accents, island color, or an unexpected mix from my studio. You can always bring your own fabrics.
See the fabric ideaGE Quilt Designs offers video classes, clubs, digital patterns, and other online programs. I will share the ones we are following and show you how to pair them with a local workshop or your own fabric pull. You can enjoy the ideas even if you cannot come to Ewa Beach.
Online learningIn the studio
We start with a real project and the cutting or piecing decision that matters most. Beginners are welcome, and experienced quilters can explore a new layout or fabric direction.

Rulers, patterns & fabric
Start with the Stripology ruler that suits your projects, then choose a pattern or book you want to make.

I carry a selected range of rulers, mats, patterns, and useful tools, with help choosing what you actually need. Contact me for current availability, pickup, or shipping before making a special trip.
GE Quilt Designs also teaches online. Use the GE Quilt Designs links on this page for the current video classes, clubs, and digital patterns; those purchases and access are handled by GE Quilt Designs.
An Art Quilts Hawaii workshop and fabric bundle are separate purchases when offered.
Optional island fabric
Our workshops and projects use GE Quilt Designs patterns, remade with our own fabric combinations. For some projects I will offer an optional Barb-curated fabric bundle, sometimes by preorder.
Do I have to buy a bundle? No. Bring fabric you love, or choose a bundle when one is offered.
Once a month
Once a month I will share the next Stripology project, the GE Quilt Designs class or club I am watching, my Hawaiian fabric idea, and how to join us. You will get a useful preview before workshop registration and bundle preorders close.

Still unsure where to start? Ask me before you buy anything.
The event listing will say which ruler and supplies are needed. If you are just exploring, contact me before buying so we can choose the right starting point.
No. Bring fabric you love or choose an optional AQH bundle when one is offered.
You can follow the newsletter, shop eligible supplies and bundles by arrangement, and take GE Quilt Designs online classes from wherever you live. In-person AQH workshops have their own locations and capacity.
Only when the individual event listing explicitly says so. Otherwise, register for GE’s digital class or club separately.
Pick a second-Tuesday workshop, or ask me which ruler fits the quilt you have in mind.
