Appliqué Your Way

The word appliqué; attaching fabric on top of fabric. It conjures up hand sewing, satin stitch, embroidery, rough edges, turned edges, reverse design, or fused you never know what the assumption is. That is why this class is perfect, starting with who is in the class and what style they use or what style they are interested in learning. Then going on to show samples and discuss why various techniques work well differently in different projects. Demonstrations will provide tips.

Borders and Binding

There is so much to talk about. New quilters will learn various ways to attach borders and binding and everyone will find the best way that works for them. We will have a great conversation about the fabric choice and the width of both borders and binding which leads to design ideas and how to make adjustments to each quilt individually. But you can never have a class without talking about how to quilt it. There are so many different ways to quilt borders and how to place the designs. This section can be a full class on it’s own.

All Over, Quilt From Back, E2E

Quilting is a design element that adds the final touch to complete a quilt. That final touch need to be the right design to really finish off the quilt and tie it all together. An all over design is for free motion quilters, quilt from the back uses paper pantograph designs and digital designs are named continuous designs or edge to edge. If you use any one of these methods then this is the class you want to take to help you use your library of designs more effectively and to build your library with designs that will match your the style of quilts you make. There is so much to talk about from the size of the design, angles vs curves, or even a conversation of how to choose a flower out of 20 flowers. What I really love about this class the takeaway of knowing what designs quilt faster than others designs. Sometime we just want that quilt finished and I have some fast easy designs that will finish your quilt in no time.

Free Motion Made Easy

Quilting is a design element that adds the final touch to complete a quilt. That final touch need to be the right design but sometimes speed is the priority. To get the quilt done; instead of setting up quilt from the back, spending time to choose a digital design. You baste or load the quilt on a longarm frame and start quilting. Let’s share how to start a library of your designs and break them down to modern lines, fun loops or various swirls so you aren’t just defaulting to the meander. If you love the meander let’s add a little circle or square for some interest. Quilting can be done in various ways: on a domestic machine, longarm stationary, longarm frame or hand sewn. It doesn’t matter how the quilting is created its all about the designs and what you are confident in quilting. We will explore all shapes, sizes and styles and you will walk away wanting to finish those quilt tops.

Piecing Blocks

Piecing is usually what a quilt class or retreat entails.Quilters expect to haul all their equipment, a set up space and told what to cut and sew. Then the class is spent cutting, sewing and chatting until class is over. This is no ordinary piecing class at the quilt studio we focus on skill building, conversation, handouts, note taking and inspiration. Come ready to learn, explore and have fun. The title will change to Strip Piecing, Log Cabin Blocks, Triangles, T-Shirt Quilts, Themes like panels, Tula Pink, 3 yard bundles or patriotic Quilts of Valor but the name only changes the color fabric or the size of the pieces. Either way we are learning about choosing fabrics, understanding patterns and finding the best way you enjoy piecing. If there is still time then we will talk about the thread color and quilting designs that would go with your fabric and block choices.

Quilting Tools

Mastering quilting tools is all about understanding how to properly use what you own in more that one way and to discover other quilting tools that are available that may assist you. Quilting tools are created to make a step in the quilting process easier or to make a specific technique easier. The first step to mastering your tools is to understand why they were created and to ensure we are using them correctly. This class will include all tools in every step of quilt making to include various specialty feet. Also, it is encouraged for you to bring any tools you want to discuss.

Quilt With Rulers

Rulers can add stability with stitch in the ditch or precision lines or shapes to a space. It is a skill everyone should have. To have the knowledge of how to use rulers and finding the key rulers that you will use redundantly is provides you the opportunity to really level up your quilting when it is needed. It is all about finding the flow and how to place your hands to hold the ruler and move the quilt or machine. This balance that seems overwhelming can become very easy to grasp and manage with the right tips and practice.
